Hi again, mga ka-DadBuhay! 👋
After sharing our travel kwentos, I thought I’d take a break from storytelling and share something super helpful for fellow parents — especially those who are planning to travel with kids soon. ✈️👶🏻👧🏼
Let’s be real: traveling with kids isn’t easy, but it doesn’t have to be a nightmare either. One kid is okay but having another one is a challenge. With the right prep, it can be manageable — and sometimes, even fun!
Here are some tried-and-tested travel tips based on our recent trip as a family of four.
1. Pack Backup Food – Always! 🍱✈️
Airplane food is a hit or miss — and honestly, most of the time it’s a miss pagdating sa kids.
So we always pack:
- Small containers of meals (yung hindi madaling masira)
- Crackers, biscuits, fruit pouches
- Yogurt melts and dry cereal (lifesavers!)
- Formula or milk packs (kung applicable)
Pro tip: Pack items na familiar sa kanila para hindi na surprise ang lasa — especially when flying long-haul.
2. Snacks + Toys = Sanity 🍭🧸📱
Trust me, a bored toddler is a dangerous passenger. 😅
That’s why we bring:
- Coloring books + crayons. Meron ding nabibili coloring books but uses only water to show the colors or the pictures.
- Magnetic puzzles or sticker books
- A tablet with pre-downloaded shows (with child-safe headphones)
- Fidget toys or anything quiet but engaging
Our eldest even had her own Trunki luggage (JetKids) — full of her favorite toys and snacks. Bonus? It doubles as a leg rest or mini bed on long flights. Sulit na sulit!
3. Bring Extra Clothes — For Everyone 👕🧦
Yes, everyone — not just the kids.
Long flights, unexpected mess, or sudden accidents like:
- Vomiting after turbulence
- Pee emergencies dahil ang haba ng pila sa loo
- Or ‘di inaasahang diaper leak
We pack at least:
- Extra outfits for each child
- shirt and trousers for us (because minsan, damay tayo 😅)
- Plastic bags or wet bags for soiled clothes
- Wet wipes and alcohol (non-negotiable)
4. Don’t Forget the Travel Potty!🚽👧🏻
Since our eldest is already potty-trained, this one was a game-changer.
Airport toilets aren’t always kid-friendly. Mahaba ang pila, or minsan gross talaga. So we brought a portable travel potty — perfect for quick needs in the car (especially in the Philippines sobrang traffic), or even while waiting in line.
She felt more comfortable, and we didn’t stress as much about accidents. Win-win!
5. Use Kid-Friendly Travel Gear 🧳💺
Aside from the Trunki (JetKids) that doubles as a kid’s luggage + footrest/bed (super useful during layovers or long flights), we also brought:
- Our double pram (Joie) for easier movement through airports
- A baby carrier as backup when the youngest didn’t want to sit
- Small blankets
Comfort is king when you’re traveling with little ones. If they’re happy, less chance of meltdowns.
Final Thoughts
Traveling with kids takes a lot of patience, but the right gear and prep make a huge difference.
At the end of the day, it’s not about having a perfect trip — it’s about making the journey smoother, so you can focus on making memories.
So if you’re a fellow parent abroad planning your next trip home or just a quick holiday, hope these tips help! May your flights be peaceful, your kids be entertained, and your snacks be plenty. 😄
Till next time, mga ka-DadBuhay. Safe travels!
