Tackling a Jungle: Garden Care After Vacation

After two months of an unforgettable vacation in the Philippines, balik ulit tayo sa totoong buhay — cold mornings, laundry, and yes… an overgrown jungle a.k.a. our back garden. 😅

I’ll be honest — I’m not a plantito. I don’t even know the names of most plants. Pero since we left the UK for two whole months, wala talagang nag-alaga ng garden namin. So pagbalik namin… boom, surprise! Parang sinadya ng nature na takeover-in ang backyard!

🌱 Grass na parang forest

The grass grew so tall, halos matakot na kong gamasim kati Baka may ahas na. Sobrang kapal na parang kailangan mo ng jungle boots. I had to bring out the lawn mower and do multiple passes — kasi minsan nag-ja-jam na yung blade sa sobrang kapal.

And of course, while doing that under the sun (yes, surprisingly sunny sa UK), I could already feel the muscle pain brewing. Mga tatay out there, alam niyo na yan — you don’t feel it right away, but the next day, boom! parang bugbog sa buong katawan. 😅

🌿 Weeds and unwanted “surprises”

Hindi lang grass ang problem. Meron pang mga weeds, moss, and kung anu-anong halaman na hindi ko alam kung saan nanggaling. Some were climbing the fence, others were growing around the flower beds (na wala namang flowers). I even found random dandelions and wild herbs na di ko itinanim!

💪 Muscle aches and sore legs

After hours of pulling, cutting, raking, and bagging… I was drained. Hindi siya yung kind of tired like chasing your toddler sa Disneyland — this one was back-breaking, knee-popping kind of tired.

Pero kahit ganon, may sense of accomplishment. Slowly, the garden is starting to look like it used to — livable and not like a lost jungle. Plus, at least naka-exercise na rin. 💪

🪴 Final Thoughts

To all the dads (and non-dads) out there: even if you’re not into gardening, you’ll eventually face it — especially kung may backyard ka. It’s not my hobby, but part of taking care of the home din ito. And at the end of the day, it’s still fulfilling to clean up and bring back order to your little piece of green space.

If you have any tips for lazy gardeners like me, drop it in the comments. 😅
