Week in the Life 2: Work, Birthday Breaks & a Costco “Treat”

Hey everyone!
Another week has come and gone — and as always, life doesn’t slow down when you’re a dad juggling family, work, and a bit of sanity. 😅 Here’s a little recap of what happened over the past week.

🌱 Saturday: Garden Day Again (a.k.a. My Unexpected Workout)

I kicked off the weekend in full-on gardening mode. Walang ballet class is Ate so gardening was the task.

There’s this big plant right in front of our driveway that’s been blocking my view whenever I back the car out. It was getting harder to see if any cars were coming, so it had to go. After that, I moved to the back garden where the neighbor’s plants had totally crossed borders — all the way to our conservatory! You can imagine the pile of cuttings afterwards… felt like I trimmed a jungle!

The green trash bin…full again! I have to wait another two weeks for the council to collect the bin.

🛍️ Sunday: B&M, Lunch, and Essentials

Sunday was a more relaxed day.
We headed to B&M for a quick lunch and did a bit of shopping for the house. Just picked up some essentials and a few groceries — nothing too exciting, but it’s those little errands that help reset for the week ahead.

🚗 Weekday Hustle: Drop-offs, Naps & Nursery Runs

The weekdays are all about routines again — drop-offs in the morning, and sometimes I pick up my eldest from nursery if my wife can’t make it (our little one is still in that golden nap window). Luckily, school is just a stone’s throw away from both our house and the office, so it’s manageable. I make sure I don’t have meetings those times so madali lang makaalis for a short period of time.

🎂 Midweek Break: My Birthday (and a Costco Adventure)

Work started out stressful — again.
Clients were piling on requests for projects that weren’t even mine. I was running low on patience and even lower on energy.

So I made a decision: I took Wednesday off.
It was my birthday, after all — and I wanted to spend it with my wife and kids, not glued to Teams and email. When my wife asked what I wanted to do to celebrate, I gave her three “exciting” options: Mall, Park, Costco 😂

Guess where we ended up? Yup — Costco!
But we were proud of ourselves — no impulse buying this time! We stuck to our list and walked out without anything random in the trolley (a rare feat, right?).

🩺 Thursday: Annual Health Check

The next day was all about self-care.
I had my annual medical assessment — nothing urgent, just making sure everything’s ticking as it should. It’s a good reminder to all dads out there: check in with your health, not just when something feels wrong, but as part of taking care of the people who count on you.

🧠 Friday: Wellbeing… Kind Of

Friday is supposed to be our wellbeing day at work — meaning we can take a half-day if things are calm on the client side.

tried to enjoy that perk, but I found myself checking emails and Teams messages every now and then. I was waiting for a reply from a colleague in the US regarding a project escalation. So… not quite a full disconnect, but at least I got a little breather.

✨ Wrapping It Up

It was a typical week in many ways — busy, messy, a little frustrating — but filled with moments that remind me why I do what I do. From garden cleanups to Costco birthdays, life as a husband and dad might not always be glamorous, but it’s definitely meaningful.

Thanks for following my weekly recaps here on DadBuhay — and as always, I’d love to hear how your week went too. Drop a comment, share your own story, or just say hi!

Until next time, mga Ka-Dadbuhay!
