My Wife’s British Citizenship Application: The Waiting Begins

It feels like we only recently celebrated my wife’s ILR approval, and now we’re back to checking emails and tracking another application.

Shortly after her ILR was approved, we submitted her British citizenship application. Because I am already a British citizen, she became eligible to apply for naturalisation immediately after receiving her ILR, so we decided to move forward without delay.

After spending years dealing with visa renewals, immigration requirements, and waiting periods, it feels strange to be so close to the finish line. At the same time, it feels exciting because this should hopefully be the final major immigration application for our family.

Back to TLS for Biometrics

Part of the process involved attending a biometrics appointment through TLS. Having gone through several immigration applications over the years, the process felt familiar.

The appointment itself was straightforward. Her passport and appointment details were checked before she completed the biometrics process. Once everything was done, we received confirmation that her application had been successfully submitted to the Home Office.

And just like that, our part was complete.

Now We Wait

As anyone who has gone through UK immigration applications knows, waiting is often the hardest part.

There are no more documents to upload. No more appointments to attend. No more forms to complete.

All that’s left is to wait for the decision.

Even after recently going through my own citizenship application, I still find myself checking emails more often than usual. Every notification gets my attention. Every email arriving in the inbox makes me wonder if this is the one we’ve been waiting for.

Hoping for a September Approval

Based on recent processing times and experiences shared by other applicants, we’re hoping her citizenship application will be approved around September.

Of course, every application is different, and timelines can vary. But if everything goes smoothly, September feels like a realistic expectation.

For now, we’re trying to stay patient and enjoy the summer while the application is being processed.

Almost at the Finish Line

When we first moved to the UK, citizenship felt like something very far away. At that stage, we were focused on building our careers, adjusting to a new country, and creating a stable life for our family.

Year by year, one immigration milestone led to another.

Visa renewals.

ILR applications.

Citizenship applications.

Passport applications.

Looking back now, it’s hard to believe how quickly the years have passed.

DadBuhay Reflection

One thing I’ve learned throughout our immigration journey is that every milestone comes with a period of uncertainty. No matter how confident you are in the application, there is always a waiting period where everything is out of your control.

That’s probably the hardest part.

You spend weeks preparing documents, double-checking requirements, uploading evidence, and attending appointments. Then suddenly there is nothing left to do except wait.

For our family, this application feels particularly special because it represents the final major step in a journey that started years ago when we first arrived in the UK.

Hopefully, sometime around September, we’ll receive another email that changes our lives once again.

The waiting begins, for the last time…

-Until then, love you bye! And that’s #Dadbuhay.
